Agreed, this wasn't the best story ever but I loved seeing Dick beat the hell outta Joker. Who's never really done anything epic to him specifically outside of shooting Babs I guess.
Yeah, Dick beating the Joker to death(WITH HIS BARE HANDS!!!)was probably the only thing I even remember about this mini.
I don't know, besides the thing with Babs, Joker did kill off Jason Todd, who was like a brother to Dick(I remember Dick actually gave Jason his first Robin costume), plus Dick was under the impression Joker had killed Tim as well. I'd have beat him to death as well if he'd shot one member of my "family" and killed two others!
Yeah I wonder if they ever followed up this with a convo between Dick and Bruce about Dick damn near killing Joker.
Good point, I'd forgotten Dick and Jason used to be close. And I'd forgotten Tim was supposedly dead too because this story was so bad. Didn't he think Croc ate Tim or something?
I can vaguely remember Dick getting really despondent after almost killing Joker, and sitting around his apartment in the shadows. I think Tim, Wally and Babs tried to talk to him, but I donj't remember Bruce showing up. If I ever finish up all these essays, maybe I'll try to remember to dig up the NW comics that came directly after the Last laugh storyline.
HA! I can see how you'd forgotten/blocked out alot from that story! Yeah, Huntress found pieces of Tim's costume in a sewer that Croc was inhabiting, and since Babs had lost contact with Tim, they all assumed he was Croc food. Looking at Tim in that pic though, I doubt he would have made much of a meal for Croc... He looks like he weighs 100 lbs tops in that pic! Hell, Dick's arm is practically as thick as Tim is!
It's funny you mention Croc, because I was reading some of the Knightfall trade last night, and some guards at Arkham were wondering pretty much the same thing! They couldn't figure out how he went from being one of the major crimebosses in Gotham to becoming what he is today.
I just finished the first Knightfall trade(it ends with Bruce getting his back broken)and the start of the second trade(where the Bat-family has to figure out what to do about Bruce/Batman), and thus far I'm REALLY enjoying it. It's chock full of Gotham City goodness, before confronting Bane, Bruce has to go through a who's who of his rogue's gallery, which is a blast to read for any Bat-fan.
Awesome, sounds like they borrowed that idea kinda for Batman Arkham Asylum. I may have to get it sooner than later now, especially after watching Bruce demolish Joker in the post above.
Yeah, in a way, it is sort of like Arkham Asylam, except instead of all the crazies being trapped on Arkham Island, they're all running wild in Gotham, which leads to Bruce pushing himself to get them all locked back up again. Oh, and that beating actually goes on for like 2, 3 pages, which is just great.
Let's see, Batman faced Two-Face, Poison Ivy, Mad Hatter, Firefly, the Cavalier, Scarecrow, Joker and Scarecrow on a team, the Ventriloquist and Amygdala on a team, Zsasz, while Robin got stuck in the middle of a fight between Bane and Killer Croc and Tim also got to face off against Riddler. Of course I could def be forgetting somebody, as you can see, there were a ton of villains running around!

Hm...if you do please let me know. I'd love to know about that. I can see no one being able to pull him outta the funk except maybe Bruce or Alfred.
ReplyDeleteYeah Tim was as skinny as Damien in that pic. I like how Croc went from being a human who had a skin disease to just eating people raw....big jump.

ReplyDeleteHmm the irony. How is Knightfall so far anyway? I've been meaning to check it out.

ReplyDeleteThat;s just plain awesome. For curiosity sake who else does he fight besides Joker & eventually Bane?

ReplyDeleteDamn that sounds awesome. I really need to check Knightfall out asap. May have to pick it up if I have enough money on my Wednesday run.
ReplyDeleteYeah, if you like Gotham villains, you'll prob like Knightfall.
ReplyDeleteBruce and Flash probably have the best Rogues of DC in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteCompletely agreed.
