Captain America #14(April 2006)

Damn Bucky week... Now I want to read this entire storyline all over again!

  1. Whats the name of this trade or what issues does this arc include because I REALLY wanna read this now...

  2. Is that stare-down EPIC or what?!?! Damn... It was the Winter Soldier storyline that ran through Captain America #1-14(well, it was actually two different storylines, but almost everybody just looks at it as one ongoing 13 issue storyline). The singles are REALLY pricey and hard to find(just check this link out to see what I mean!http://www.mycomicshop.com/search?TID=545311), so I'd recommend trying to get the two Captain America: Winter Soldier trades(which look like this: http://www.mycomicshop.com/search?TID=680411)or the Winter Soldier Hardcover(whichever's cheaper). If you thought Enemy of the State was good, THIS blows that out of the water!! Ed Brubaker was just off the CHARTS good here. This story will prob turn you into a lifelong Captain America fan!

  3. Damn... I'd be a fool to get the issues. I'll write this down along with the other recommendation of Cap Marvel and see if I can find the trades in stock next week. Hopefully I can grab a few, especially with you hyping it as better than EOTS.

  4. The best thing is that I was collecting this series at the time, since I've always been a huge Cap mark, so I have EVERY one of those singles! :-) I'm always happy to see one of my comics doing well price-wise, even though I'd NEVER sell them! Hell, it STILL blows my mind that the first issue of Marvel Zombies is selling for like over $50! I NEVER expected THAT to happen when I picked that book up!

But getting back on track here, I'd recommend getting the Winter Soldier stuff before you get anything else. It's really an incredible story...

  5. Man, the fact you have those and Marvel Zombies makes me even happier that I plan on stealing your comics :P Lol kidding, kidding.

Hm... in that case Cap Marvel is on hold and Cap America will be joining my weekly comics next week. Speaking of which I may FINALLY get around to reading Secret Six. Remember I picked up all those issues like months ago? I grabbed the other four or five today so I got the whole series so far.

  6. Ha, you wish!!! Those aren't even the most expensive books in my collection! I also have Gambit's first appearance and the very first appearance of Deadpool(TWO of them actually!!!), so yeah, my CB collection is VERY nice indeed! :-)

Yeah, I'd def agree with your Cap logic. Hmm, you know, I'm probably like 3 or 4 months back with my Secret Six reading... I guess that says a lot about my feelings towards it!

  7. Man... did you get those when they came out coincidentally or did you spend like a ton on em?

Lol I only got it because Gail writes it and I like Catman and Bane, hopefully it's good, I saw a few of your reviews you gave it a high rating.

  8. The Gambit story is one of my favs, so now that you brought it up, you'll have to indulge me! So I was like 10 or 11 and I had just gotten into comics, so my collection consisted of maybe 5 issues around Christmas time. I remember telling my mother that all I wanted for Christmas was comics, and lots of them(hmm, 10 yr old me sounds a lot like the current me...), so she wound up buying a Marvel grab bag from Sears(of all places), and inside the grab bag was Uncanny #266(I think that's the right issue). So I had a Wizard Magazine, and I was checking the price of each of my new Christmas comics, and that issue of Uncanny was like $22 or something, which was like a million $ to a little kid! So yeah, that comic is prob why I was such a HUGE Gambit fan when I was younger. As for DP's first appearance, I must have picked up the first copy when I was still a kid, and the second copy was a throw-in from a eBay seller... I ordered the full DP run from the 90's, and the guy selling it threw in New Mutants #98 for free! I bet he wishes he held on to THAT comic! I've never spent more then $10 on a single issue of anything, that's always been my max price for a single. When I'm rich and famous THEN I'll raise that price, but until then, $10 is my max.

Well, I hope you like it... I'm not really sure why I fell so behind actually...

  9. "Ten year old me sounds a lot like current me" Ya beat me to it haha. Man sounds like you lucked out. I've bought some boxes of comics from people but I'm MUCH too lazy to ever go look them up.

I'll let ya know dude, I've actually been reading a Dark Horse comic called "Empowered" I picked up not too long ago via trading someone on that site, all 5 volums and the special. It's more of a comedy, with some sex jokes (but not any like graphically shown sex of course) and stuff and it's drawn Manga style and it's been pretty funny. After that I'll jump into the stuff you and Marc recommended.

  10. Well there was a time when I used to try to keep track of what books I had and stuff, but I just have SO many comics it's nearly impossible to keep track... Hell, I've only been in my current place for like a week, and my bedroom is all ready becoming a comic ridden mess... There;s a pretty good free online comic book tracking site(http://comicbookrealm.com/)where you can keep track of which comics you own, and how much they're worth. Last time I checked I had over 10,000 books there worth over $30,000 or so. But the last time I actually went there was prob 6 or 7 months ago, so who knows what I'm up to now...

So do ya think that Empowered series would be worth looking into or not?

  11. Damn.... that's insane. You're like the richest man I know... and you dine on Digorno and get haircuts once a year. You're like when Hank was a rich miser. Lol

Honestly bro, I think ya would. I'm on Volume 5 just over the weekend, and I like all the jokes and stuff, but it's Manga style, and black and white. But it's hella cheap, it's like 4-7 bucks on Amazon I believe per volume. But yeah, if you don't mind the manga style and appreciate a fun um... Adult-ish Young Justice type story I'd say yeah. The guy who writes it wrote for Gen13 apparently.

  12. HA!! Yeah, but I'm only rich in comics I'd never sell, so I'm not sure if that really counts... I guess if I went insane I could prob make a killing at eBay though.

Hmm, well if it's that cheap, next time I order from Amazon maybe I'll see if I can snag the first trade. Why not?

  13. Lol I love that you'd have to be insane to sell them. Not even if you had to pay rent, just straight up insane. Lol

Sweet, You should dude. Somehow I think it will get put on the back burner, like Brave and The Bold #32 :P

    ReplyDelete
  14. Damn straight! I'd have to be off my gourd, flat out One Flew Over the Cuckoo's nest crazy!

Well, on the plus side I DO have that comic around here somewhere. On the negative side, I have a LOT of other comics to read!

    ReplyDelete
  15. I've never seen that movie..or read that book...if it IS a book. Don't make fun of me..Lol

You'll find it one day, when it's been retconned so it doesn't even matter anymore :P BTW Falisha read Vol. 1 of Empowered today and loved it.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Really!? We BOTH know I don't watch ANY movies and yet I've seen that one!

Huh, you know, I REALLY don't know where I put that comic! I guess it's in my pile of new books, although I didn't see it when I flipped through 'em all... Weird...

    ReplyDelete
  17. Damn... well that just makes me feel like a loser lol. So would you recommend it?

Weird...maybe your sis took it? So that and Teen Titans should appear in BOTR one day soon eh? :P

    ReplyDelete
  18. I don't remember actually! :D I prob watched that movie ;ast when I was like 11 years old or so!

Nah, I know which comics I've lent out to her, every thing is just such a frigging mess from the move that I'm still looking for certain odds and ends... Plus I REALLY need a few more crates for my comics, because They're all over the damn place. I'm getting up early to do some shopping tomorrow, so maybe I'll take a swing by Lowe's or Home Depot and see what kind of storage things they have in stock.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Lol man... That's one of the movies I haven't seen, I have seen a lot though. I list some but I'm sure its easier for you to list what ya HAVE seen haha.

Check you out, you're a man's man going to Home Depot. Now all you need is a super thick beard...lmao.

    ReplyDelete
  20. HA!! Definitely!

Well, I am looking kind of scruffy since I haven't shaved for a few days... Since I don't really have anywhere to be(job/school)I can let myself fall apart! :P I went to Lowe's and they didn't have jack, so I ended up in Staples, and they had a few nice size storage crates, so I grabbed 5. I think I'm going to try to sort ALL of my comics by alphabetical order tomorrow, so if you don't hear from me for a few days, it's 'cause I'm prob buried under a mountain of comics!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Haha, I don't know why, even though I've never seen you I STILL can't picture you with a beard... hell I have one of those Matt Hardy chinstraps and I only cut that every two weeks. Otherwise it just grows in wild... like CM Punk's current beard. Wrestling references for the win! Lol

Man, Alphabetical order?! That's a 12 person job... you're a good one. Oh speaking of which, how do you like the new/old place?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yeah, it's not really a beard, it's more like a real thick 5 o'clock shadow right now. Once it really starts to bother me I'll shave, but right now I just don't feel like it(there's that laziness again!)

I REALLY want to start this project, but it's SO daunting a task, I can see I'm prob gonna keep putting it off!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Oh, and to answer the last part of that comment(since I commented too fast for my own good), so far so good. I'm saving on gas money, since the only place I was always coming here anyway to do the lawn and stuff, plus I'm DEF eating better! :D That's a huge perk!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I feel you dude, I'd like never shave if Falisha didn't like the beard a certain way... I'd grow it until I had to cut it because of having Lint in my beard when I wake up...

So once you order everything alphabetically, then what? Would Amazing Spiderman and Ultimate Spiderman be on opposite ends even though both are Spiderman? Wouldnt it be easier to put everything together by person (All the Supes, all the Bats, all the Wolverine's etc.?)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Crap... I commented too fast too haha, and that's good, glad you're enjoying it, and eating vegetables for once :P

    ReplyDelete
  26. I actually(just about)finished up alphabetizing all of my DC books, but considering some comics are still ongoing, and therefore need extra space in their crate, I couldn't exactly alphabetize everything perfectly... But hell, things are WAY more orderly then they were! Now if I'm looking for say, Gotham Central #33 I at least know about which area to look! I still have some DC's to go, plus ALLLLLL of my Marvel books(which I def have more of then DCs... I'll prob be taking another trip to Staples soon, cause I'm gonna need more crates!

Hell no I'm not eating my vegetables! It's funny you mention that, 'cause that STILL bugs my mother to this day! I HATE veggies!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Check you out, I know how you spent today then buddy. So Gotham City Sirens is RIGHT next to Gotham Central. That must help you when it comes to scan week.

Lol you and your hate of Veggies. I had some green beans or string beans or whatever their called today with my hamburger patties.
