You're definitely right about him being a much better character in AOA. In fact, the only time I can even really remember him appearing in the main universe was in the Joe Casey/Ron Garney X-Corps story right after Uncanny X-Men #400...and he spent most of that story asleep in some sort of experimentation tank!
Yeah, I think he may have also had a quick cameo in an issue of Cable where we learn he had the Legacy Virus(I think...) Maybe that was a different character though... That's like Blink. Look at her in the mainstream Marvel U! If you blinked(heh heh)you'd have missed her quick first appearance and death!
Yeah, Abyss was quite cool - he's never really featured in anywhere else in media, save for a boss battle in X-Men Legends 2: Rise of Apocalypse (twas a good game). Or has he appeared elsewhere?
Hmm, good question Nagash... Besides X-Men Legends 2(or as I call it, THE GREATEST COMIC BOOK VIDEO GAME EVER!!!), I don't think he's popped up anywhere else. Definitely not in any other video games, and I doubt in any cartoons, although I can't say that with any certainty.
As for why XL2 was the greatest comic book video game ever, it's quite simple, X-Man was a playable character!
