Batman #424(Oct. 1988)

Yeah, the writing was on the wall regarding Jason Todd's future(or lack there of)by this point... You know what the sad thing is? If Jason Todd would have been introduced just a few years later, during the kill-happy 1990's, he probably would have easily wound up surpassing Dick Grayson in popularity...

  1. Wait, so did that dude just die? And no one cares?

  2. Aw come on JT, the real story is the tension between Jason and Bats! So that guy fell screaming to his death. Meh. I guess that IS some pretty awful super-heroing though...

Oh, and for the record, since I'm not sure if you've ever read this comic, that guy definitely deserved his fate.

  3. I'm just shocked Bruce let that dude die and just doesn't care at ALL. He had plenty of time to swoop down. And nah I've never read it, what'd the jerk do?

  4. Lmao @ X, the real story, you're wild X. You know how to make me laugh. Lol.

I'm shocked Bats would even hint at saying Jason pushed him. Meh oh well. Snooze ya looze! Guy had it coming! According to X. :D lol

  5. Well, I'm not the King of Comedy like a certain blogger, but I still try, Falisha!

OK, here's the story(as I remember it, so I could be WAAAAAY off)... Jason hears some woman scream and breaks into an apartment and pretty much catches that guy raping the woman. So he proceeds to beat the guy(and his henchmen)up and him and Bats take the guy down to the station. It turns out the guys done this to the woman twice, and that he's a diplomat's son, so he was untouchable. Bats decides to try to get the guy deported on drug charges, which works. So the guy gets booked at the station, and after he's released, he calls the woman's house and taunts her, telling her that he was going to pop by her house in a few minutes, all while Bats and Jason stand nearby. From there, they try calling the woman, get no answer, and race over to her place where Jason discovers she hung herself, as opposed to being attacked again. Jason sneaks away, and then you get the scene above. So yeah, I'd say the guy most definitely had it coming.

As for Bats saving him, I don't know, if you look at the picture, he's already falling before Bats even arrives, so I kind of always figured that the guy went splat before or as Bats showed up on the scene, leaving him no time to step in. Of course the arguement would be, shouldn't Jason have had the time to snare the guy, which is prob why Bruce suspected Jason had something to do with the guy's death.

  6. Damn, that dude definitely deserved it. Hell if you ask me Jason was in the right here. Just another moment where Jason does the right thing and comes off looking like the Bad guy.

If you ask me, if anyone should join Deathstroke's little group, it should be a certain Jason Todd...

  7. Exactly my sentiment! But see, that's why guys like you or me couldn't be super-heroes... I just know I'd come across some really sick stuff, and I'd wind up killing some sucka who deserves it, then I'D be the one hunted by all of my super-hero co-workers...

THAT is an excellent idea! I'd buy TWO of those comics if they hooked Slade and Jason up together!

  8. Right? We'd be Ollie. I don't blame him though, that dude was an ass. Hell everyone kills, even a boyscout like Supes has killed if he had to, I'd just have lower standards haha.

Well thanks ya. I agree I mean he'd fit the criteria, and all this time Slade has been trying to recruit and basically training Grayson so why wouildn't he settle for Jason? He's as much of an equal as he could get and he isn't above killing someone who's doing wrong. (Like you an I lol)

  9. I like Jason's post as he's swinging away in the last panel there. It looks very carefree, almost Spider-Man-esque.

  10. You know, I think Ollie is the perfect way I'd see myself as a hero. I mean, I wouldn't be like the Punisher, blowing away EVERY criminal I see, because let's face it, some criminals DO reform. But a guy like Prometheus, or that guy who raped that girl and caused her to hang herself, he'd also get an arrow through the right eye. Plus putting Jason with Slade might actually turn him from the sad joke he's become to a somebody again!

I didn't even notice that Marc. You know what the sad thing is, a mere two issues later is the beginning of the Death in the Family storyline, so that was probably the last time Jason was able to swing through Gotham...

  11. I agree dude, I'd definitely cross the line if they cross it first. And yeah if Jason teamed up with Slade he'd definitely be his number two, hell I could see him trying to take Slade's spot, or disagreeing with him, thus making him a good guy.

Poor Jason, little did he know he's get blown to pieces. But Marc's right, that does look very Spidey-like.

  12. Jason is just so awesome. A total badass. The problem is that during that time period, people were still used to Dick Grayson, as well as not really into antagonistic heroes.
This is just what pissed me off. If the writers killed Jason off on their own accord, instead of being "fan-driven", I might've been fine with that. But because no one during that time period liked the idea of an anti-hero Robin, the writers decided to kill him and cut him short of the necessary development.
Still, I'm glad he's back as Red Hood.
