Factor-X #1(March 1995)

Even during the Age of Apocalypse Mr. Sinister was scheming against pretty much everybody!

  1. That guy looks JUST like Lobo. That's my comment for the day. :D lol.

I wish I had all knowledge like you X so I could actually know who everyone is. lol.

  3. Weirdly enough, I think I enjoyed Mr. Sinister's portrayal in the Age of Apocalypse more than in the actual Marvel universe (I never did read Factor-X though). He's just always seemed a little too one-note for me in regular continuity.

  4. Huh, I don't see the Lobo resemblance... Hmm, then again, on second thought, that close-up on the last panel IS kind of Lobo-esque.

I love Mr. Sinister in either universe Marc. He's right up there among my very favorite X-villains. Sinister is at his best(first of all, as a MAN!), not when he's actually taking on the X-teams head on, but when he's dropping vague hints at them and leading them on. One of my favorite Mr. Sinister comics was WAAAY back in X-Men #23(I think)when he's just talking to Cyclops about all kinds of stuff, and he ever so casually drops the famous "you and your brotherS" line at Scott, which totally blew Scott's mind. Just simple little things like that, playing with heroes heads is what I like the most about Mr. Sinister.

  5. Yeah, that issue of X-Men was one of the few times I found him interesting. It's both good and bad that they didn't follow up on the "brothers" comment...bad because it seemed really interesting, and good because the writers' actual plan to go along with that comment was actually pretty stupid.

  6. Oh, so I take it you know the full story behind the third Summers brother by your last comment then Marc? Let's see then... When I say Adam-X you say...

  7. I say, "That's him!" Except not really, since they never ended up fully developing that story...

Weirdly, Claremont "revealed" that Gambit was the third Summers brother in his X-Men: The End series. I think it was supposed to be the one element of that series that would actually carry over to the main universe. But then within a few months, Ed Brubaker introduced Vulcan and basically nullified everything Claremont had done. Oops!

  8. Ha, yeah, the whole third Summers brother thing really turned into a big mess, didn't it... In the end though, out of those three choices(Vulcan, Gambit & Adam-X), I think the right character was chosen. Gambit was already established, so I don't think he needed that, Adam-X is Adam-X, I think that's all I need to say there, so that leaves Vulcan by default. I still think it's a shame Vulcan is dead and not on the X-Men, but what can you do.

  9. I refuse to recognise Vulcan as even existing!
    Now about Dr Essex:
& Sinister is awesome! now claremont had different plans for him & Gambit but thank god
we had what we have today ! his origins comic was a masterpiece! when written well dr Essex is a pure joy to read about . this is the bane in scott's life ,will haunt gambit forever & destroyed poor maddie's life & sanity

  10. Ed Brubaker won me over with Vulcan in Deadly Genesis. He's a character that really could have gone far if used correctly...

Are you talking about that Further Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix mini? Because I LOVED that! That did such a fantastic job of giving us ALL the reasons Sinister became the man he is/was today. Man, I should dig that mini out and give it a re-read...

  11. To be honest , if they gave Vulcan's job to a resurrected Stryfe ,it would have been far better because:
1 it would not use the Xavier is evil cliche ? Onslaught was the last I gave a damn about prof X, he should have died peacefully like in the cartoon after that
2 Banshee would not be dead! Say what you will but I HAD FUCKING ENOUGH OF SEEING THE LIKABLE ONES BUY IT! & the best part? no one gave a damn after 5 mins...suuuure, But hey as I Say fans should make their own cannon or even write it , they 'll be happier
3 Vulcan: Iknow you'll disagree but here's how I feel about him: He's like the Superboy-Prime of the Marvel Universe. He has these absolutely idiotic, vague powers. He controls energy. ...Go to hell Marvel. That's not a legitimate power. That's BS. That's a lame excuse to keep him virtually invincible and plot convenient so he can whine and moan and pretend like he's actually a badass villain. Sean Cassidy and Corsair were even sacrificed on the altar of this fanfic reject too.
4 Stryfe is a villain i 've always loved mostly because he 's pettier than Dr Doom on crack & never got half the love or respect he deserved, no one chews the scenery better than this guy & he can definitely have far more cards up his sleeve than Magneto in terms of stories to tell. You have no idea how much there's to explore with this guy,he'a victim of being created to be a crash test dummy yet developped sentience, however he's a complete monster & never had any regret about it & eats nearly any team for breakfast while playing his own remix of Shakespeare with a vaudevillian glee!
Shame only askani stories & x-cutioner song used him right.his return must be a big fucking deal! The goddamn chaos bringer coming from the pits of hell would if done right be an epic saga!
5 the 3rd summers brother problem should not have been solved that lazily, espacially when you read what Weinberg inteded to do in Cable ,It would have been for me the perfect resolution for that mystery!
this , of course is my take on the matter

  12. Well, I think we'll have to agree to disagree with this one! I don't really see how Stryfe COULD have been the third Summers brother... If anything, Stryfe SHOULD have been the ORIGINAL Nathan Summers, NOT Cable! That more than anything bothered me. Hell, after the X-Cutioner Song, it was ALL set up to make Stryfe Cyclops son, and THAT would have had more of an emotional impact on Scott and the team, because they'd have been battling against Scott's son, as opposed to the clone of Scott's kid.

Vulcan's powers were better fleshed out during Brubaker's Uncanny run. He was an energy manipulator. So you blast at him, he controls that energy. While Bishop was an energy battery, Vulcan could use they powers of others against him. It's how Gladiator was able to kick his ass, just get in close and beat the hell out of him! Those Brubaker comics are what made me sympathetic to Vulcan, because he was basically a spurned kid of like 14 in a man's body, who was abandoned by Xavier. Yes, the "Xavier is evil" thing has gotten a bit cliched by this point, but for THAT story, it worked. He was desperate to save his original student, who he was like a father to, and wound up sacrificing other young mutants to do it. I like that better than the whole, "Xavier mind-wiped Mags, but now for some reason an evil part of Mags psyche is attached to the evil part of Xavier's mind, and now they're gonna do evil things together!"

  13. sorry I was a bit rushed , i didn't mean Stryfe should be the brother, I wanted him to be the returning villain since there's still a lot you can explore with his vaudevillian stryfeness! & the clone issue? it's actually a more believable motivation than oooh humans hate me or my parents left me! Hell he'a victim of being created to be a crash test dummy, a pure scapegoat,a factice yet developped sentience,he decided to get revenge on his makers yet enjoys giving hell to anyone who crosses his road! he's the toy that strikes back, the discarded one that whoops ass!

  14. Ah, cool. and I agree, one of my favorite X-stories is the X-Cutioner's Song. That storyline could make ANYBODY into a Stryfe fan. He was such a sympathetic character in it(to me anyway). I just wish they'd have pulled the trigger and made him Scott's son. I remember reading an interview somewhere with some creator(very vague, I know!) who said they always wanted to make Stryfe the "real" son and Cable the clone, but Marvel's editorial nixed the idea because they thought fans wouldn't accept Cable as a clone and wouldn't follow the character(which is funny, since X-23 is a clone and is doing just fine). Stryfe as an angry clone is cool enough, but imagine if he WAS Scott's real son? If that was the case you'd HAVE to think Stryfe would have become one of the major X-villains(like he deserves to be) today.
