Is Venom talking to himself again? Man I love that. "WE ARE VENOM, WE ARE ONE!" Man, that's more awesome than Deadpool and his two narration boxes.
Yup, that's one of the things I hate the most about the current Mac Gargan Venom, I don't think he talks like that anymore...
Man, just when Mac attack couldn't get any lamer. I didn't know he doesn't speak like he's bonded with the suit. I hate that they made him venom.
Yeah, I'm not sure, but I don't recall him doing the whole, "We" thing in Dark Avengers. I'll have to double check to be sure though.
How did he even become Venom? As you know I don't read much Marvel anymore.
OOOOK. I'm going to throw out the short form. If you want me to fill in any particular details, ask away! Eddie discovered that he had incurable cancer, and decided to auction the suit away to the highest bidder(I think he wanted to give the proceeds to charity, but I may be mistaken). Some sleazy mobster won, and paid Eddie and got the suit, but the suit didn't like the mobster so it let him fall to his death while web-swinging. From there my memory gets a bit foggy, but I think the suit bonds with Gargan because they both share a hatred for Spidey... But I could be totally off about that last part... If you really want to know, let me know and I'll pull out the trade, which is no biggie, because I know exactly where it is.
That's so awesome, i love how the suit just let the mobster die. Could you pull the trade for me or just tell me the name, I'm interested in it and I'll probably buy it if you recommend it.
No problemo, mi amigo! The trade is called "Spider-Man: Venomous", and it was written by Mark Millar. It collects Marvel Knights Spider-Man #5-8. As for a recommendation, it's prob been a good 3 or 4 years since I read it, so to be honest, I can't say I remember it well enough to give it a strong thumbs up or thumbs down... I don't think I recall it being awful, but I don't remember it being super great either... Like I said, it was by Mark Millar, so at least you should have some idea of how it is based on his style.
Hm... I think I'll pick it up. I genuinely like Millar's work so, if I'm disappointed oh well, I've read worse. Thanks for looking that up for me buddy. I know I ask you this alot but any other recommendations? I have a little more B-day Cash and I wanna make a list before I get my weekly stuff Wednesday.
Yeah, that's pretty much how I'll go about picking up a series too. First I look at what characters are in it, then I see who wrote it. WELL, I could definitely recommend the REBELS series... Yeah, I'm like a broken record... Anytime somebody asks me a question nowadays, even if it's not comic related I just spout off, "I'd recommend the REBELS series!"... "Do you have the time?" "I'd recommend the REBELS series!"Umm, besides that I guess it depends... Since I'm still reeling from that damn daylight savings(I HATE losing that extra hour of sleep!!!), I'm not sure what else I could recommend... If you're thinking Marvel, maybe Dark Wolverine? Since you're into Deadpool now, maybe a few cheap Cable/Deadpool trades? Hopefully when I'm more rested I'll think up a few other things before Wednesday. If not, then like I said, go for either a character you like or a writer you enjoy. That's how I pick out most of the back issues I buy.
Lol @ Do you have the time equals a Rebels recommendation. I don't really know anything about anyone in REBELS though, unless you feel like explaining it one of these days.I do wanna get Dark Wolverine as you've suggested before, and I actually was gonna pick up some more Deadpool issues this Wednesday. I borrowed Suicide Kings from a buddy yesterday and I really liked it. I meant to ask if you know anything about a woman in Marvel named Outlaw?
To be perfectly honest with you, JT(and I really mean this)I knew NOTHING about the REBELS characters going into that series. I mean literally nothing! I picked it up off of a recommendation from a guy who used to frequent my blog like last Spring. And you know I'd be happy to explain the main/major characters in that series to you. If I can convert at least one person to a fan of that book, then I know I've done my job!Suicide Kings? I'm not sure exactly which storyline/series that's from... Most likely, I probably the loose issues, and not the trade, which is why it's not ringing a bell. Ah Outlaw! Yes, I do indeed remember her! I recall her being quite the busty Texan(I believe). I think she worked with Agent X, before she headed over to the Cable/Deadpool comics towards the end of the seires.
Alright then, by the time you reply it should be Tuesday night. and I trust your recommendations, so give me the info I need for a beginner and I'll pick up all the issues that are out on Wednesday. See how much trust I have in you bro.Basically Deadpool has to survive an onslaught of fights, including being hunted by the Punisher. Also appearances by Spidey, Daredevil, Outlaw and a few other people. I really enjoyed it, I'd definitely recommend it, it's only five issues. I think you HAVE to get it since I'm getting REBELS. Lol just kidding.Yep, that's her. The quite Busty Texan who apparently has implants. I didn't know comic book characters announced when they had implants. Also she was created by Gail Simone apparently. Do you have the issues of Deadpool that Gail wrote?
Hmm, I'll have to look into what comic this Suicide Kings storyline came from... It doesn't ring a bell, so I guess it's from the current DP series.Oh yeah, Gail wrote the last few issues of the Deadpool series from the 90's and then she switched over to the Agent X series... I don't think she finished up the Agent X series, because I think she wound up leaving Marvel for DC before that series concluded.
Apparently it's not, I looked it up, but the tpb drops next week if you had any interest in checking it out.Gail is pretty damn awesome then. I also found out that Fabian created Deadpool?! I was unaware, that makes me even happier that he's taking over for Red Robin.
Yup, Fabian wrote the tail-end of the New Mutants series(DP debut in NM #98)and the early portion of the X-Force series, where Pool was often popping up. That's one of the reasons I'm psyched to see Fabian take over Red Robin. He used to do some awesome stuff over at Marvel.
So has he really done anything big at DC, besides writing Tim Drake's Robin series?
Let's see, I know he did a few Battle for the Cowl x-over things, most notably the forgettable Azrael mini, plus he also did/was doing the Azrael ongoing, unless it's been cancelled already!
Ugh I hated that Azrael thing. It's such a stupid premise. Plus doesn't he kill people? Because I believe Bruce and Dick would have stopped him by now.
Dude, I don't even know/remember/care enough to find out! I HATED the Azrael Battle for the Cowl mini so much I didn't even bother to give the regular series a shot... Let's hope Fabian got all of the crap out of his system with Azrael!
Exactly dude it was HORRIBLE. How the hell does he have a FLAMING sword? Why does he need two? Why does he know where the Batcave is? Like... everything about that thing bothered the hell out of me. Since he's written Robin before I'm confident. Didn't your sister read alot of Robin? You should ask her if he did him Justice.
Yeah man, that mini was pretty abysmal. Although I will admit to being really impressed that you seem to have remembered it so well! Most of that was like reading a foreign language to me! Whenever I'd finish an issue I'd completely force the memory of it from my mind! She didn't only read "alot" of Robin, she read ALL of Robin! Tim "Jinx Robin" is probably her favorite male comic character. She actually managed to collect the whole Robin series from the beginning mini-series to the very end. AND she used most of her own money, which showed me that she must have really wanted to read it, since I'm usually picking up the books she wants for her! I'll def check with her to get her thoughts on the matter(I'll be seeing her tomorrow), although she doesn't really pay much attention to who writes what comics. I don't even think she has a favorite writer, just favorite characters, which always makes us get into bizarre X-Man related arguememnts...
I couldn't forget it. That piece of crap wakes me up at night in a cold sweat... lol.Damn, so she's a Tim Drake/Wayne enthusiast. Also we haven't called him The Jinx in a while... Lol what bizarre X-Man related arguments do you guys get in? Btw you spelled arguments horribly :P Lol
You know, usually when I'm doing my blogging/responding to posts I'm all alone at my place, so I've got the headphones on and the only sound you hear is the tapping of my fingers on the keyboard, but that last line of yours LITERALLY had me legit laughing for a good 30 seconds! I think it was the very casual way you pointed it out to me... Like, "Umm dude, btw, you CAN'T spell!" As you can see, my college education is money well spent! :D "arguememnts"... Ugh!She's not just a Tim Drake enthusiast, she's a Tim Drake MEGA-enthusiast! Ugh, the great Nate debate... OK, before I get into it, some background info about Nate first... Nate was born and raised in a tube by Mr. Sinister in the Age of Apocalypse world. As such, he never knew his birth parents, only that Sinister created him from the DNA of two mutants to kill Apocalypse when the time was right. Then he headed to the mainstream Marvel U, where he met and began to travel with Maddie Pryor, who was the clone of his mother, Jean Grey. So Nate and Maddie(who had lost her memories)would travel around, getting into trouble and such, and eventually Maddie put the moves on Nate and the two made-out a little, before they were interupted by Jean, who was hunting down Maddie. For my sister, the fact that Nate and Maddie were making out was UNFORGIVABLE, to the point where she wouldn't read anything with Nate in it because of the gross factor involved with Nate making out with the alternate clone of his mother. While I granted her that it was indeed a pretty disgusting visual(and a HORRIBLE decision by the writer), I could rationalize it by thinking, "Well, he's a horny 17 year old, he doesn't know Maddie is the clone of his mother, AND she's hot!". My sister won't hear of it, and as such, whenever one of us brings up Nate, it devolves into a verbal free-for-all! Yes, it's wrong to swap spit with the alternate clone of your mother, but if you never knew your mother, how could you know you were doing anything wrong?!? ARRGH!Well, I'm not gonna spell-check this comment, so hopefully I didn't botch it too badly! :p
Lmao The ONLY reason I pointed that out is because I'm often typing too fast and I cause typos so to see you make one like that made me feel human lol.Lol I see her point but I gotta agree with him. He didn't know she was his mom so that's kinda a pass. That's like if you meet some hot chick, date her then find out she's a distant cousin or something. You didn't know. Now if you continue on... thats a little more weird.Just for the record, I read Cyclops was with Emma Frost. Now to my knowledge he's always loved Jean so when the hell did this happen? And how does Scott keep getting such hotties?!Oh and I think you did well, you get an A on your spelling test buddy. :P
There ya go, that's the way I see it! If you don't know that it's the alternate clone of your mother, you SHOULD get a pass on it! And that was the last time anything happened between the two of them... Well probably, depending on how you read into the weird stuff Warren Ellis was doing towards the end of the series...Yeah, Scott's been with Emma for a while now. He even cheated on Jean while she was still alive with Emma. Being a fan of Jean, my hatred for both Scott and Emma knows no bounds. I think the bottom line was that Emma wanted Scott as a way to thumb her nose at Jean, and Scott was having all sorts of mental problems after being possessed by Apocalypse, so they wound up having a mental affair(everything they did only happened in their minds...). When Jean died though, they hooked up and have been together ever since, much to my undying disgust!
Lol InceX-Man... But nah really thats...something. Why would they even write something like that for his character. Were they trying to be raunchy?Damn, the way he was always "Her bitch" for lack of better term, I can't believe Scott cheated on her... wait. So I type as I read. How the hell do you have a MENTAL affair? And why is that even considered cheating. That's like saying a daydream is considered cheating.
"InceX-Man" HA! I hope my sister never finds out about that name, because I'd never hear the end of it! I honestly can't understand why the writer(besides the fact that he sucked about as bad as Yost/BENDIS)decided to go the route with Nate... I always thought it was distasteful to the max.HA, yeah, they had a "mental affair"... First off, keep in mind that Grant Morrison was the writer during that period in X-history, and we both know how crazy him and his stories tend to be! I guess when you're a telepath though, things are different. Emma would enter Scott's mind and the two would get it on. Since she was such a powerful telepath, it was pretty much like the real thing I guess. They could set-up the local, the situation, etc.
Lol I won't tell her then through my mental telepathy. I agree that's very distasteful and kinda... speaks volumes about the writer haha. Who wrote it anyway?Ah Crazy ass Grant. That's his new name from me. You call bendis the Dread lord BENDIS, I call Morrison "Crazy Ass Grant." Hm... that's pretty wild. So did Emma and Jean eventually fight over Scott or how did that get settled?
The writer was Terry Kavanagh, and dude, he made BENDIS look good! Kavanagh had NO right to be writing the X-Man series, 'cause he had NO frigging clue as to what he wanted to do with the character(besides have him make out with his mom's clone I guess...). That's the biggest gripe I had about Nate's comic, it never led to ANYTHING! And the worst part was the fact that he wrote like 80% of the X-Man series! Ugh..."Crazy Ass Grant"? Hmm, you know, it works! No, I don't think they ever had like a telepathic catfight or anything like that... Although it's been a few years since I read Grant's New X run, so I mainly only remember the big picture stuff. As for how it was settled, Jean wound up dying, which sucked, because if anybody should have died, it should have been that damn Emma!
Ouch, so basically he was just writing it as he went along and had no game plan on where he wanted to take the story? That dude sounds awful. If he still writing now?Damn, and Jean is still dead now right? How did she die anyway? Was it Phoenix related?
Thankfully, to my knowledge Kavanagh isn't writing anything of note(so far as I know). The series just never really went anywhere... You could prob read issue #21 let's say, and then pick up issue #44 and nothing of note would have happened between! There are two things that will always haunt me about Nate, two specific what ifs... The first is what if Jeph Loeb would have stayed on the series, since he wrote the first 5 or 6 issues, or what if Marvel would have replaced Kavanagh 20 issues in instead of letting him fester for almost 50 issues... The second thing that always bugged me was the fact that Nate never joined the X-Men... I can't help but wonder how things would have turned out if either of those things happened.Yep, Jean is indeed still dead. It wasn't REALLY Phoenix related, although she was starting to get her Phoenix abilities back prior to her death. As for how she died, Magneto killed her by giving her a massive stroke by rearranging the iron in her brain. Wolvie then decapitated Mags. Of course, once Crazy Ass Grant left Marvel, Marvel went and undid everything by claiming it was a fake Magneto who killed Jean... Yeah...
Wait...so his name is Nate "X-MAN" Grey and he never joined the X-Men?! Why is his name even X-Man? Why would a fake Magneto wanna kill Jean? And how long has she been dead and do you think they'll bring her back like everyone else eventually comes back?
I had to jump ahead to a post I knew you didn't read yet. Your Warrior thing gave me an Idea where I'm gonna blog on my site and tell everyone about supposedly "true stories" about myself and you, ranging from dumb arguments to other stupid but funny things. Just wanted your thoughts on me using your likeness for comedy :P Lol
Ha, yeah his name is X-Man, but he never joined the X-Men!!! Weird, no? He mainly got the name because Marvel thought it was a cool name I guess... I'm sure there's an Age of Apocalypse reason, since that's where Nate came from though... As a matter of fact, I can't even remember many instances when people actually called Nate X-Man... That's one of the reasons I'm always calling him Nate, because in the comics, EVERYBODY called him Nate!Exactly! The problem was that Mad Grant put together this AWESOME X-Men epic, that ended with Magneto returning from his apparent death and killing Jean. However, Chris Claremont, who was writing Excalibur, and had been writing Magneto for like 20+ years didn't like that idea(I guess), because once Mad Grant left for DC and Batman, Chris brought back Mags in his book(like 3 months after his "death"!)and explained the death away by saying the Scarlet Witch had created a fake Magneto while she was crazy and he did all the damage! Sounds pretty terrible, no?I'd say for about 5 or 6 years now. It looks like Marvel has a new character they created named Hope Summers who *may* be the reincarnation of Jean. Since most of that stuff has been written by Yost, I've been skipping it, so I'm only vaguely familiar of Hope.
Weird, so more people call him Nate than X-Man. Then again a fair share of people call Cyclops and Wolverine Scott and Logan so...Sounds really terrible. So Crazy ass Grant ruined something else. I hate how someone can just take an established character and make that change. I mean I don't see why Marvel would even ALLOW him to kill Mags. Same thing with DC and Roy's arm.Is that the chick that's her clone or something? If so I saw her in a Spider-Man comic a few weeks ago.Ah I knew you wouldn't see that added post haha.
Yeah, most everybody in the Marvel U called Nate, Nate, so I tend to as well. At least some people will call Wolvie and Cyclops by their codenames, I honestly can't recall anybody calling Nate X-Man, nor can I remember Nate saying anything Awesome like, "Men call me X-Man!"I actually liked Grant's move of killing Mags, because in the context of the story, and with all of the relationships between the characters, it all made perfect sense. Mags had crossed a line by killing one of the X-Men, not only that, but he killed Jean Grey, so you had to know Wolvie was going to make him pay for that! My main complaint was the fact that Marvel went and brought Mags back pretty much 3 months later... Mags should have stayed dead for a little bit longer then that!I honestly don't know... Like I said, since it's mainly a Yost idea, I've been ignoring most of it. Maybe she was in a Spidey comic, but I can't say for sure.Yeah, I didn't see that little post you slipped in, I was prob responding to your earlier post when you posted the second one... Would I be OK with that? Hell yeah I would!!! That sounds awesome! I can say that I'm now eagerly looking forward to that/those posts!
Lmao, well played bringing that line back. Men call me X-Man! Women call me THE MAN!! *Nate does cool pose*Ah that does make sense now that you point that out. Him coming back too soon is stupid, I mean 3 months? And it wasn't even really him? Why would he allow a fake Magneto to masquerade as him?I don't blame you, lets hope Yost fades into obscurity.Lol awesome, glad you like the idea, I'll try to make it funny as hell. Damn this pressure. :P Should be good though. If ya have any ideas on stuff we could be doing, let me know.
"Why would he allow a fake Magneto to masquerade as him?" That's the thing that makes the whole idiotic thing fall apart... Supposedly Mags was living on the destroyed island of Genosha at the same time fake Mags was running wild. Why would he allow an impostor to run amok and destroy half of NYC using his name? It just made no sense..."I don't blame you, lets hope Yost fades into obscurity." I can't second that any more strongly!!! Unfortunately, for as long as Joe Quesada is EiC at Marvel, and as long as Yost is his boy, he's prob not going anywhere... Yeah man, I'm going to be expecting A LOT out of you! You'd best not disappoint... Or else!!! :D
Don't they have editors or fact checkers or something to run these dumb ass storylines by before they let them out in the world? As a primarily DC guy, as long as he goes back to Marvel and stays FAR away from Spidey and Deadpool I'll be happy.Lol I'll disappoint on purpose!!! Oh by the way, how do you like the name "The JT & X Files" Lol
Yeah, unfortunately, I think most of the time it's the editors themselves who want those terrible stories run... For some reason, no matter how many times Mags is killed off, MArvel is always bringing him back, which makes me think it's the top guys who are responsible.Well as a guy who enjoys both Marvel and DC, let's hope he goes to Image or something! The JT and X Files? I like it! It fits to me.
Wow, everybody comes back eventually. I'm calling for Sue and Ralph Dibny in 2012. Book it X.Lol I'm with the there, or some other comic label, or better yet have him make his own. Now I just need a good concept without it being very boring and or dumb. It's hard thinking up greatness.
