Young Justice #41(March 2002)

Wow, is it really that easy to recruit somebody onto your team?

  1. HA! Slo-bo...Lil Lobo, who's idea was that?! And why were they recruiting people?

    ReplyDelete
  2. Hmm, I think Impulse had quit after his clone died on Apokolips, and Robin may have been off the team too, although I can't remember when Bruce replaced him as Robin with Steph... So they were either recruiting to replace Bart or to replace both Bart AND Robin.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Wait... if you don't mind, can you explain the whole Impulse having a clone that died thing?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Oh jeez, do I have to?! *Sigh* For you I'll try JT... So somewhere along Bart's solo series he developed the ability to... um, I guess grab himself from various points in the timestream and have them do stuff in the present... I think... It's been a while since I've read those comics, so I could be a bit off... Anyway, one of Bart's timestream dupes wound up getting killed on Apokolips during the, "Our Worlds at War" storyline, and he went kind of catatonic for a bit, then when he snapped out of it he didn't want to be a hero anymore... or something. Like I said, I def could be wrong. If I see my Impulse books while I'm unpacking, I'll def try to flip through them to refresh my memory.

  5. Sounds kind of...weird. I get that he'd be devastated that his clone died cause it could've been him but his whole thing at that time was his childlike innocence right? So taking it away seems kinda stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I'm not really sure WHAT the writer was going for in the Impulse comic at that time to be honest with you JT... I mean, I guess it kind of developed Bart's personality a little(he wasn't just running around without thinking anymore), but within a few issues, all was forgotten and Bart was his regular, naive self again...

    ReplyDelete
  7. Weird, guess the reaction to his change was negative so they just forgot all about it.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Or maybe a new writer came in and said, "The hell with THIS!"... Who really knows!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Lol, Oh speaking of Writers, JT Krul is taking over Teen Titans.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Well, with the GLARING exception of Rise of Arsenal, I like Krul's work, so I'm not too bothered by that. I look at Rise of Arsenal as a real bad idea that the editors gave Krul. He's just trying to do the best he can with a horrible idea...

  11. I agree, well you know I liked the last two issues, I liked his Teen Titans Blackest Night with the Wilson family, so hopefully Rose will re join the Titans under his watch.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yeah, I still wish we had Rose instead of Bombshell as the resident bad girl on the team... Like you said, maybe that will be rectified soon...

    ReplyDelete
  13. I could see that, hell put em both and throw HAI-ME's punk ass out. Hell I'm fine with Rose, SB, Kid Flash, Static, Aquagirl (starting to like her) and I dont even care after that.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Yeah, okay, I'd be fine with that team I guess... Although I've fallen WAY behind on my Teen Titans reading(much like Secret Six)...

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yeah you've got like 5 issues If I recall, so you may wanna get on that... :P

  16. But my laziness...

Oh, I did start that second Wolverine: Weapon X trade you and Marc were talking about, and I loved the first issue! Wolvie is in an insane asylum with no idea of how he got there or who he was. So he goes to get his pills from a doctor and the guy gives him a cup with a jelly bean and a pencil eraser, and Wolvie is like, "But this is a jelly bean and a pencil eraser, not pills..."

    ReplyDelete
  17. Lol @ But my laziness.

Lmmfao... I love how he says it so nonchalant. So.. did he take them? Or did he just beat the guy into smithereens?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Nope, Wolvie swallowed down his jelly bean and eraser! That trade is frigging CRAZY! I think it would be perfect to read around Halloween time, 'cause there's some messed up stuff in that comic! I'm almost done with it(only have 2 more issues to go), and so far I'm def enjoying it. I'd say it's prob in the 8 1/2-9 1/2 score range right now.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Damn, Well I did pick up the first, along with Marvel Boy and Spyboy so I can grab the second when I get the Winter Soldier stuff. The whole Wolverine's Pills thing sounds worth the purchase alone.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I finished it off last night, and I've got to say, it was pretty fricking funny! The whole thing is just insane! There's one scene towards the end where Wolvie guts some guy and turns away from him, and the guy reaches down, grabs his intestines(which were leaking out of him)and begins to strangle Wolvie with them! I don't think everybody would enjoy a story like that, but I know I sure did!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Lol Choking Wolverine with your own intestines... man that's gutsy! *pun intended* Yeah, well, They can't all be good. Anyway that comic sounds awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  22. It's def not a serious Wolvie comic, and anybody going into it thinking it is would be disappointed, but for a funny/off the cuff little story, it was a RIOT!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Sounds like my cup o' Tea, guv'nor. So did it go well with the first trade or are they on two different wavelengths?

    ReplyDelete
  24. I've got to say, it's pretty different from the type of story the first trade told. I liked 'em both, but for different reasons.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I may review the first arc this weekend, can't choose between that and some other stuff on my list. That, Spyboy, Cap, Marvel Boy and some other stuff...

    ReplyDelete
  26. Damn man, you sound like me! I currently have 19(I just counted)piles of unread comics/trades, with each pile ranging between prob 50 and 75 books! That's A LOT of unread books!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Damn, 19 PILES? Jebus! (Simpsons) Thats a LOT of comics... what do you have like, series you never read or something? That Hawkman series?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yup, Hawkman, Aquaman, 3 Robin piles, a pile of random trades, two piles of random Marvel stuff, a bunch of old JLA/JL Task Force stuff, Damage, the old Outsiders series, some Authority and Constantine, Simon Dark, plus oodles of random DC stuff. Oh, and my pile of new stuff. So yeah, I have piles upon piles, upon PILES of unread comics laying around...

    ReplyDelete
  29. You have oodles of comics! I just wanted to say oodles. So whats next on your list after your enormous Robin run? Hawkman? Aquaman? Ironically two people who died and came back recently...

    ReplyDelete
  30. Heh, oodles is a great word... Pfft, who knows! Knowing me, by the time I'm done with the Robins I'll prob have something new that I'll want to dig into!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Man... I feel like if you were to ever read ALL your comics you'd be lost lol, or would you just start over? Good thing there's ALWAYS more comics to read.

    ReplyDelete
  32. EXACTLY! I can NEVER be done, because there's ALWAYS more to collect! That's why I love this hobby, it can NEVER end! Hell, the act of collecting and acquiring is almost more rewarding then the actual reading...

    ReplyDelete
  33. Check you out dude, so if it weren't comics would you collect something else like Cards or something?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hmm, probably. Before comics it was exotic weapons, before that it was wrestling PPVs, before that it was those comic book cards, and before that it was comic books... So yeah, I'm an obsessive collector, so I'm sure my mania would take root somewhere...

    ReplyDelete
  35. I wish you still had your wrestling PPV's we could compare and trade some stuff... and those exotic weapons still sound awesome... I want one now. Gimme one, I'll trade ya a um... DC Collectible action figure haha.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yeah, those all went bye-bye when I moved up here... I had EVERY single PPV from Summerslam '90 up until prob early 2006. Plus a few tapes that had various Raws and Smackdowns from the mid 90's, late 90's and early 2000's.

Dude, I'm actually looking at my samurai sword right now! That sword and that sweet fist blade thing are def my favorites.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Damn man you had a great collection of stuff... I'm jealous. So what happened, you just gave em away or left them behind or what?

Way to rub it in :P You remember the sites you got those things from dude?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Gave 'em all to one of the cafeteria workers I used to talk wrestling with. It was like two black garbage bags full of tapes, and I told her if she wanted to keep 'em, cool, if not then chuck 'em! Knowing her, she's still got 'em!

Nah, that was WELL over 6 years ago. Who knows, the place might not even exist anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Oh yeah you did say that. Arghh, I could've got free DVD's with the price of shipping!!! Ah well, you made a lunch lady's day. Okay wait, so did you eat the school lunch when you worked there? Just curious.

Ah well, I tried :D By the way you're the king of collections as well.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Yup, they'd feed me breakfast and lunch, but I had a GREAT relationship with all of the lunch ladies. They didn't feed everybody on the custodial staff(or ANY teachers), I was kind of like their little skinny adopted son! :D I started working there when I was 18, always treated them with respect and stuff, and worked my ASS off(plus I'd always help them out with any little problems that would flare up in the kitchen, even before doing any work I was supposed to be doing), so they all loved me. I'll tell ya, there's one guy on the custodial staff I miss, but I prob miss like ALL of the lunch ladies. They were a really good bunch.

AH! Why thank you! I'm always looking to expand my kingdom! :P

    ReplyDelete
  41. Lol skinny adopted son. I can see them now, "Eat up X-Man (yes they called you that), You're just skin and bones baby!" Lmao... But yeah that's pretty cool. You'd think the way they paint lunch ladies that they'd be all stern and stuff but hearing they were the coolest ones there was cool. Were they all sad about you leaving when ya did?

Haha my pleasure my liege :P

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hell, I refer to myself as X, so why not have them call me X-Man! Yeah, they'd always be trying to get me to eat. There was nothing better then coming inside after shovelling snow from 5 in the morning until 8 and being given a heaping bowl of grits with cheese. Or a nice warm straight from the oven blueberry muffin. Mmm-MMM!! Yeah, it was kind of like a double whammy, 'cause the WEEK after I left, the oldest lunch lady was retiring. Dude, to an extent, that reputation is true! The head cook in the kitchen was this older Jamacian woman, who'd be SCREAMING at everybody! The kids, the other lunch ladies, the teachers, the custodial staff, EVERYBODY! Sometimes she'd get SO worked up I could barely understand WHAT the hell she was going on about... My first week on the job I did something to piss her off, and she just went OFF on me in the middle of the kitchen! I just stood there slackjawed until she was done, apologized for what she was saying I did wrong, and then went right on doing what I was doing before! :D I wound up winning her over too, with my flawless manners and the fact that I'd let her sneak out of one of the backdoors with the food she'd take home with her! Man, I have some stories from working there...

    ReplyDelete
  43. Lol I can picture her yelling with Jamaican slang and an accent. Man what the heck did you do?! And the fact she was taking food home just makes it even funnier, reminds me of that dude on that episode of Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares.

Dude lets hear em, I'm a sucker for a good story.

    ReplyDelete
  44. BUZZARD!!! HAHAHAHA!!! A Kitchen Nightmare reference earns you the honor of being named the King of Awesomeness!!!

We used to fill up this big canister with the bags of garbage that would come out of the cafeteria during lunch time, and when the canister was full(usually about 10-12 black bags), whoever was in charge of getting rid of the garbage that day would then roll the canister through the kitchen, out the back door, down the delivery ramp, and to the big dumpsters behind the school, where you'd then toss the bags away. So the guy I was working with told me to go and collect the garbage and get rid of it, so whatever, I loaded up the canister, and began wheeling it through the kitchen when she just blew up at me! Something about not taking the garbage through the kitchen or something. So after she was done, I took the garbage out and went to the guy I was working with and was like, "What the hell?!?", and he was like, "She's like that sometimes." The next time I went through the kitchen with the garbage she was super nice, so yeah, go figure! I figure it was because I was new and she didn't know me yet, and once she got to know me she was cool, but damn was that an uncomfortable experience!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Lmao Yep it was Buzzard!!! Lmao excellent memory! And thank you sir, I accept.

Lol Man what a weird reason... I Know you were confused as hell... haha were you scared to take it through the next time? Well not scared but Apprehensive?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Oh man, that's STILL awesome, even a day later!

Yeah, apprehensive would probably be the right word. There were a few things that scared me working there, but a crazy old Jamacian lunch lady wasn't one of them! :D

    ReplyDelete
  47. Haha that was lady Buzzard, her boyfriend was on that show. Man thats funny...

Lol so now I gotta know what DID scare ya there. Students with weapons? Drug addicts? Um... Crazy old HAITIAN lunch ladies? Lol

    ReplyDelete
  48. Dogs. Dogs def scared me. Really early in the morning(like 6 or so), every so often there'd be a pack of about 5 or 6 dogs that would prowl around the schoolyard and the dumpsters. Since my first job in the morning was cleaning up the outside of the school, that always kind of scared me. I could deal with one dog, but I def didn't want to get attacked by SIX dogs at once! The people never scared me, 'cause I always kept an eye out for trouble and managed to avoid it, but dogs are a different story!

Besides the dogs, heights bothered me too. In the boiler room, the roof was SUPER high(I'd say a good 20-30 feet), and there were these really shaky flourescent light fixtures up there. Since I was the tallest guy on the day shift(as well as the youngest)whenever a light would die in the boiler room, I'd be the guy to get called to put up the new lights. So I'd have to get the 16 foot ladder and climb up to the tippy top, reach BOTH hands up, change the two blown bulbs('cause the bulbs went in two at a time), climb down, then climb up with two new bulbs, stand at the top of the ladder again, reach up and fight with the damn light fixtures while they rocked back and forth! NOTHING could make me sweat like changing those bulbs. I don't sweat much, I mean, I used to work in classrooms in the middle of the summer with the windows closed, in 90 degree plus heat and barely work up a sweat, but the thought of changing those lights would cause me to sweat like a pig! THAT was scary!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Dude I don't blog you, hell Two dogs are bad enough but SIX? Oh hell no dude.... HELL no. Hell, that would've scared anyone.

Damn dude that sounds scary as hell too. I hate heights and standing on the top of the ladder with No hands on the ladder... I couldn't have done it, They would've had to let me go because that shit scares me just thinking about it!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Yeah, like I said, ONE dog would have made me weary, but SIX dogs was a bit too much!

Yeah, and it wasn't like it was a 6 foot ladder, it was one of those GIANT ladders, so the higher you get, the shakier the ladder becomes! Man did I HATE changing those bulbs...

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yeah I don't blame you is what I meant to say. Blog? Lmao that was odd

Hell that should've been a two man job, at least for someone to hold the damn ladder! Any other horrifying stories of interest?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Dude, I saw the blog thing, but unlike SOME people, I chose not to point it out! :D

You know, that's a damn good point! I really can't remember anybody ever holding that damned rickity ladder for me... Then again, I don't think I would have wanted half of those guys to hold the ladder for me! They were a mess! Hmm, none I can think of off the top of my head... I'm sure something will come to me though.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Lol I knew you did, I was commending you on not calling me for it :P

Really? Do you mean like drunk or just plain old assholes? I mean if you'd rather climb a rickety ladder than have someone hold it they must have problems.
